PERMANENT MAKEUP FAQ
-
What is PMU (permanent makeup)?
Permanent makeup is a semi-permanent service that is a form of tattooing. The results can resemble brow makeup, lipstick, and many other makeup styles.
-
How long is the actual service?
The full service from start to finish is approximately four hours. Please plan accordingly as this service is not something that can be rushed.
-
What is the difference between a regular tattoo and permanent makeup?
One of the differences is that with permanent makeup, your artist will use pigments specially formulated for skin and not ink (used with regular body art tattoos). Another difference would be that permanent makeup is implanted right on the top layer of skin whereas body art tattoos go a bit deeper.
-
How long does PMU last?
Permanent makeup can last anywhere from 1-3 years depending on your skin type and how well you maintain your brows. Brow touch-ups are recommended every 1-2 years to boost the color and refresh your brows.
-
What is microblading?
Microblading is a technique in which the artist uses a handheld tool to manually create realistic hair strokes. Although this is a permanent service, this typically lasts 1-2 years depending on skin type and aftercare compliance. Microblading is not compatible with oily skin.
-
What is machine shading?
Machine Shading (aka micro shading, ombre brows, or powder brows) is a form of permanent cosmetics in which the artist uses a machine and needle to create micro pixels for a soft powder (makeup) look. Results typically last 1-3 years depending on skin type and aftercare compliance. Shading is compatible with ALL skin types including oily skin.
-
What is a touch-up and when should I get one?
This service is recommended to established clients after 1-2 years as a way to refresh the color of your brows which also increases permanent makeup longevity.
-
Does permanent makeup hurt?
Pain will vary with tolerance. Numbing IS used and applied after the first pass once the skin is open for optimal results.
-
How long does it take to recover?
Recovery time after your service is 1-2 weeks. Complete healing is after 4 weeks. This service requires patience and complete compliance with the process and aftercare. After the 4-week complete healing, a 4-8 week touch-up is recommended to ensure results. This touch-up is included in your initial session and has a 1-2 week recovery time.
-
Can I get more permanent makeup over previous work?
With previous PMU work, you MUST send photos of your bare brows for clearance before booking. Brows must be faded 60-80%. If approved you will be able to continue with the booking process. If you are not approved, you may be recommended to wait until your PMU fades or get a laser service before being cleared for another PMU service for the best results.
-
Why wouldn’t I be approved for corrective work?
Depending on how your previous brow work looks, it might be too saturated (the skin is holding as much ink as it possibly can) for us to proceed and we wouldn’t be able to achieve the look you’re wanting in the end.
