WAXING & BROW GROOMING FAQ

  • Who CANNOT be waxed?

    You cannot be waxed if:

-You're on accutane/isotretinoin or you were on it within the last 6/mo

    -You're using Retin-A

    -You've just had botox

    -You're on blood thinners

-You've had an active herpes outbreak

-You have a sunburn on the area that will be treated

-Any area of the skin showing signs of trauma, varicose veins, open or active acne lesions, eczema, psoriasis or any type of dermatitis will not be waxed

  • I'm pregnant. Can I still get a waxing service done?

Yes, you are still able to get a waxing service done. However, keep these things in mind:

-You should always check with your doctor, especially if you’re in your first trimester.

-Pregnancy can make your skin more sensitive than normal, meaning your wax appointment might feel more painful than it usually is.

  • I had a drink last night. Can I still come and get waxed?

At One You Studio, we always recommend avoiding alcohol before waxing to ensure the skin is in its best condition for the procedure, leading to smoother and more comfortable results. It’s generally advised not to drink alcohol at least 24 hours before and after your waxing appointment to minimize these effects. These effects include:

-increased sensitivity, meaning a more painful waxing session.

-Dehydration which makes your skin prone to irritation, redness, and flakiness after waxing

-Thinner blood which leads to a higher chance of bruising or bleeding during waxing.

  • Why wax?

Waxing is one of the best ways to temporarily remove unwanted hair. The more you wax, the thinner the hair follicle becomes, leading to less hair!

  • Is waxing safe for people with sensitive skin?

Waxing can be safe for people with sensitive skin, but it requires extra care and attention to minimize irritation. A patch test can be done beforehand to see how the skin reacts to a full wax session.

  • I have eczema. Is it safe for me to get waxed?

You should be cautious about waxing if you have eczema, as it can further irritate the skin and trigger flare-ups. If your eczema is severe or widespread, you must consult a dermatologist before we can move ahead with booking. They can advise whether or not waxing is suitable for you.

  • Do you service men?

Yes! Men are welcome to get any of the services offered here at One You Studio.

  • I can't make it to my appointment and my hair is growing so long. Can I go ahead and shave?

Do not shave in between waxing appointments as this will throw the hair growth cycle off and will impact your waxing results. If you shave, you will need to wait at least two weeks before we can wax you again, and rebook you in 3-4 weeks to stay consistent with your hair growth and results.

  • What type of waxing do you offer?

Our studio offers facial waxing ( brows, upper lip, chin, cheeks) and underarm waxing.

  • What type of wax do you use?

We use hard wax and soft wax. Hard wax is typically more suitable for sensitive skin and used for underarm waxes, while soft wax is used on certain areas of the face. However, if you have a particular preference, please make it known.

  • How long does my hair need to be for an underarm wax?

Your hair needs to be at least an inch (or 1/4 inch) long. Hair that is too short will be hard to grab and we cannot go over the area too many times.

  • Does waxing cause your hair to regrow thicker?

No. This is a myth. Waxing is known to thin hair or stop hair growth altogether in some cases. It is important to keep in mind that waxing should be used as a temporary hair removal method as the slowing or stopping of hair growth takes many years of consistent waxing.

  • Does waxing hurt?

Pain tolerance will vary person to person. The first time you get a wax, you will definitely be more sensitive, but as you consistently get waxed, the pain lessens over time because the hair thins.

  • Is there a way to lessen the pain of getting waxed?

You can lessen the pain before getting waxed by:

-taking an over-the-counter pain killer like Advil or Ibuprofen 30 mins to an hour before your appointment.

-being mindful of your menstrual cycle. Your period can make you more sensitive to pain
